Hi my name is Emily Smith; my mom, for the past two years, has been in and out of the hospital fighting all sorts of chronic illnesses. All throughout high school I have been trying to find ways to help and support her through her ups and downs and am now entering college. I found a way: this website.
It all started three years ago in September with a stroke. I drove her to the hospital; they told me it was not a stroke, but three strokes had gone straight to her brain; it is lucky she made it to the hospital. Just a short month or so later, tests revealed uterine cancer. After her total hysterectomy she had to have 3 blood transfusions. When they finally found medication that could temporarily stop the bleeding, they also discovered a chronic heart infection which later was found to be a blood clotting disorder. Because of this, clots filled her aortic valve, so they had to perform emergency open heart surgery. Shortly after her recovery, about a half year later, we learned that the uterine cancer had not been fully taken care of and had migrated to three of her abdominal lymph nodes (stage four cancer). My mom has been facing this battle ever since, with the most incredibly positive "fighter's attitude"; this gives us all strength. My mom's insurance has covered a good portion of these outrageous bills but our family is burdened with huge debt that insurance will not pay. So many friends have asked what they can do and have encouraged us to set up this account to help out. We are especially grateful for the unbelievable support, prayers, and compassion; any donations and continued prayers are so very appreciated!
