My story begins 5 years ago when I had a stroke. It was life altering.
The things I enjoyed were no longer possible: earning a living, reading, gardening.
It took a while for my life to take on a whole new meaning . I had to relearn everything: walking, listening instead of reading, smelling the flowers instead of gardening. I have learned to appreciate the small things in life. I miss all those things, but I now have a new normal.
I think that the hardest thing I have had to learn is to depend on people. I can no longer walk without help. The stroke damaged my eyesight as well as my kidney function. I have no sight in my left eye and very little in my right eye. I now face the future waiting on a kidney transplant.
I have some insurance but the cost of medicine, travel to and from MUSC, blood work, food and lodging are beyond our capabilities. My husband Tony had to retire to help me with daily activities. I do not qualify for disability and I can no long work because of my eyesight.
We need your help. I will be grateful for all you can do to assist us in our struggle.
