<div>In 2019, she was diagnosed with early stage cancer. Surgery and radiation worked wonders, and she was declared cancer free in February 2020. Unfortunately, she was also immuno-compromised heading into March 2020. She was an early victim of covid, and while she avoided hospitlization, the illness was extremely hard on her body. She dealt with long covid for months, and they eventually realized the covid had caused heart damage. But even with treatment over the next few years, she still struggled. All of this resulted in mounting medical bills--and a slow down in the writing that would normally help us pay those bills.

<div>Everything came to a head earlier this year when she was admitted to urgent care with a bleeding ulcer. Another battery of tests followed, resulting in a diagnosis of Ulcerative colitis. Her doctors prescribed a medication they insisted might not just help her current quality of life, but that has a chance of putting the condition into remission.

<div>The problem? This biologic medication costs $40,000 a month. Even with her 4% copay, she would need to come up with $1,600 a month. With a minimum of four months and a suggested six months, Donna will need nearly $10,000 to try this course of treatment which could not just improve but relieve her current symptoms. (As a former pharmacy worker, she has already exhausted her options for trying to get it cheaper.)
