Help Dolly in Her Fight for Life

Donation protected
  • I am Lisa Rouse and My best friend in this world is Dolly Ayers (Rouse). We have been best friends since grade school and in 2021 Dolly and I were in an accident together and if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be alive today. She morally supported my recovery even though she had things going on with her own injuries she was there for me. I want to help Dolly with anything I can during, through, and while she is recovering from the Cancer that grew in her esophagus. Dolly since October 2023 started experiencing trouble with food getting stuck in her esophagus, pain that kept getting worse and worse. The Doctor she was seeing didn’t run the appropriate test and was looking at her lungs and said everything looked good, giving her no explanation for her pain and the troubles of getting her food down, giving her zero medication for pain or otherwise. Dolly’s condition continued getting worse -having to eat soft things, soups, puddings, trying anything that would go down- Dolly started losing weight drastically 35 Lbs in less than a month. The doctor, finally got her scheduled for and endoscopy a month out- by this time in January- which made no sense she needed it yesterday. Dolly finally found a new Doctor at end of January or beginning of February that diagnosed her with esophageal cancer and finally prescribed real pain medication- that became a nightmare to get for some reason. Dolly had worked doing cleaning jobs up to the point where her pain was overwhelming- I believe it was sometime in December- that she finally threw in the towel. She had been self medicating with over the counter pain medications from the pain and eating and drinking whatever would go down. So now it’s February after the final diagnosis. Dolly is referred to a surgeon in Greenville 2 hours from her home, they make a plan and set a surgery date to place a feeding tube in her intestine- so that she was able to get the nutrients and gain some weight back before starting chemotherapy & radiation- after the surgery for the feeding tube the surgeon told Dolly and her husband -Buddy- that he had never seen the level of starvation that Dolly’s body was going through -her body was eating her brown fat-. Buddy had been taking off of work quite often to help and support his wife with any and all things she needed before and after the C diagnosis and placement of the feeding tube. I drove to NC from IA to help my bestie so that her husband could go back to work for a while. We took care of each other as best we could going to radiation 45 miles one way 5 days a week & 30 miles once a week for chemo - I believe it was 32 radiation treatments and 6 chemo treatments. Dolly made it through all of that, then last week she had surgery to get the rest of the cancer out. During the surgery they took a portion of her diaphragm, her esophagus from her diaphragm to her stomach and a lot of her stomach. She is doing well but had to go home with oxygen and much time to heal. She will also need to do a chemotherapy pill for a year. Please pray for Dolly and her family, they are loving, hard working and have done so much for so many others❤️
