Help Dispose of Nine ADVs in VA Beach!

Donation protected
A hazardous Abandoned and Derelict Vessel (ADV) is aground at First Landing State Park (FLSP) in Virginia Beach, VA at 36°54'17.59"N, 76° 1'54.24"W. In close coordination with The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, First Landing State Park (FLSP), and Lynnhaven River NOW, I've spent 90-days communicating with VA Marine Police, VA Marine Resources Commission, WAVY-10, The Virginian-Pilot, NPR, and US Coast Guard Sector Virginia attempting to find a way-ahead and energize decisive action. Unfortunately, there is NO city/state/federal entity which possesses the required approvals and/or funding to dispose of this ADV.
Background: My name is Captain Mike Provost with Virginia Maritime Solutions (VMS), and with your financial assistance a group of local volunteers will remove and dispose of this 36' derelict cabin cruiser at FLSP. We possess all the written approvals required to execute this project NOW. Once the fundraising target is reached we will start - likely before Christmas.

Environmental Impact: ADVs have negative economic and environmental impacts globally, pose physical and toxicity risk to children, adults, animals, and are a risk to marine navigation. The presence of oil, grease, paint, cleaning products, pesticides, and fluids aboard ADVs harm sensitive habitats through toxic chemicals discernment. Further, an ADV's hull, nets, lines, infrastructure, and marine debris entangle and endanger humans and marine life.

Next Steps: All donations will fund project expenses to include: vessel dewatering, towing, heavy-duty equipment rental, tool rental, vessel destruction, debris transportation, landfill fees, safety equipment, and associated labor. Upon completion of the project VMS will post a video summary showcasing the impact of your donation.

Closing: Like many of you, Virginia Beach is our home. We are committed to Hampton Roads for the long-haul and look forward to raising our young children here. We treasure time spent on our local waterways, and recognize their larger environmental importance. Please help rid FLSP of this hazardous ADV, thank you!
