Help Deshon Fight Against Desmoid Fibromatosis

Donation protected

Dear friends, my name is Desmond Mullin I live in Barbados. I want to introduce you to our son Deshon Gibson. He is 15 years old and lives in Barbados. Deshon was an active child, with an aspiring life ahead of him. He is a very humble young man with many dreams and hopes.

Deshon was diagnosed with a rare condition called desmoid fibromatosis. He has a desmoid tumor which affected his left arm, neck, ribs and chest area. He is currently in Miami undergoing medical treatment and had emergency surgery at Jackson Memorial hospital in Miami on December 22, 2020. As a result of surgery his left shoulder and left arm were amputated and three of his ribs had to be reconstructed with the hopes of saving his life due to the aggressive nature of the tumor.

While most of the tumor was removed, some was left in the neck due to the location and complication that could arise if surgically removed at that time. The doctors thought it was best to provide radiation treatment in hopes of shrinking and killing off any remaining tumor which could not be reached in his ribs, chest wall and surgically remove the small tumor in his neck at a later date.

A few weeks after surgery we noticed a swelling in his neck, the doctors recommended chemotherapy treatments in hopes of shrinking the tumor. Deshon had to get a port place in his chest to administer the chemo which was unsuccessful due to limited placement due to blood clots in his chest and groin, it had to be placed in his leg instead. His first cycle of chemo was administered and was successful. On resuming his second cycle we were informed that Deshon no longer has any remaining insurance coverage to be able to continue receiving his treatment. We were then informed the remaining cost of his chemotherapy treatment and his remaining medical procedures would be at the families expense. All treatments are on hold until the hospital receives payment in advance for any services they provide. The insurance had a lifetime coverage for just under Barbados $500,000.00 which was exhausted during the first few months of this year. Deshon is no longer eligible for insurance coverage due to his existing medical condition.

We are urgently seeking additional funds in order to be able to continue his treatments which include 5 chemotherapy sessions costing us $100,000.00 USD total. There will also be radiation treatments to follow which will cost around $44,000.00 USD, additional surgery cost to remove remaining tumor, lab fees and doctor fees. All funds collected will go directly to Jackson Memorial Hospital  to cover all medical expense current and future.

Rosalind Malcolm who is listed as beneficiary is the advocate asssisting for Deshon's medical treatment. Rosalind is accepting the funds on the families behalf to pay for medical bills. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance. Have a blessed day.

My niece Kim Austin is assisting with the GoFundMe page.
