Derpy is a singleton puppy - his mum and siblings died as a result of pregnancy complications. Derpy survived but he was born with cryptorchidism - retained testicles. His testicles did not descend and there were many vessels around them, which could lead to them being cancerogenous even at the earlier stage of his life. We decided to get them removed via abdominal surgery, which was conducted at the veterinary clinic on Thursday, 14th March. Despite a 75% chance of retained testicles becoming cancerous if not removed, his insurance will not cover the surgery or any related matters or complications as a result of it, as it is deemed 'optional'/preventative.

Unfortunately Derpy has not been recovering from the surgery- he has been in a lot of pain, struggling with high fever, hasn't been able to sleep, he does not let anyone touch him. After several injections that gave no results, Derpy was admitted on the 20th of March to receive IV medicines and fluids. The diagnosis is still not confirmed and without scans and tests, the veterinarians cannot administer appropriate treatment. The treatment is likely to be quite expensive (scans themselves are around £1000) and even though we are trying our best with the savings we have, the price of treatment becomes a burden.

Derpy is an amazing pup, he loves everyone and everything. We often say his life mission is to put a smile on everyone's face. He helped me to pull through difficult times of anxiety and depression, being a ray of sunshine that made each day a wee bit better.

We know Derpy has many Friends, probably more than we do, therefore we ask for donations. We don’t normally ask for this stuff but even though we were prepared for things to go bad, we weren’t expecting them to be THAT bad. It breaks our hearts to see him in pain, stressed and confused. The earlier we can get the funds available the quicker we can get the diagnosis and start the treatment.

Every little helps so even if it’s a £5 we will be grateful cause understand we are asking you to give something up. The money will be used for his scans and diagnosis and treatment. Any funds unused for treatment will be transferred to Dogs Trust Charity.

If you have any questions hit us up. We will keep you updated o how the surgery goes.

Once again thank you for donations, shares and the positive words that keep us going. We are blessed to have the network of supportive people around us.

Derpy started showing first signs of improvement. His temperature is still a wee bit elevated, there’s still some discharge coming out of his wound but he’s perkier, moving around more, hungry for food and pets. He’s still very weak and uncomfortable but we are going in the right direction.
He’s receiving a combination of three antibiotics right now. The cause still has not been identified but it appears that the medicines are working finally.
The decision has been made jointly with the vet not to refer him to the hospital, but he still needs to receive treatment at the local clinic. He went back today to the vets for a day to receive fluids and meds again, we will get a check up tomorrow morning. Hopefully he can spend the weekend at home.

The vet bills (excluding surgery) are amounting to approx £400 after yesterday. By the weekend it will be close to £500. Thanks to your help we are able now to cover the treatment and should there be anything left, we will donate it to Dogs Trust. We will close the fundraiser for now but once again thank you for helping us save Derpy. Hopefully he will be back to bringing smiles to everyone’s lives very soon. Thank you thank you thank you ❤️❤️❤️

We would like to say thank you for the shares and the donations. The support we received is amazing and we cannot be more grateful for every penny, every positive word that we got from you.

Derpy's going back to the clinic today for more IV and medicines. The swabs have been sent to the lab, but these won't be back for the next few days. The ultrasound showed no free fluids but the elevated white blood cell count suggest it is an internal infection. He's receiving pain relief and three different antibiotics as the veterinarians are still not sure exactly what it is, so they are trying to make educated guesses. We should know by the end of today if he needs to be referred to the hospital for further tests and treatment. The vet bill just for yesterday was £200 plus £70 for the swabs and it will most likely be the same today. If he is to be referred to the hospital, the biggest expenses are yet to come.

He's showing some, however very limited signs of improvement, the fever has gone down a bit last night, but he is still in a lot of pain, trembling, crying, hiding away. He cannot sleep, seems exhausted and lost a lot of weight. We are not losing hope though and will let you know how we get on.
