Help Denis Préfontaine get a life saving surgery!

Hi everyone, I am fundraising for my dad Denis Préfontaine. 

Late last year, my dad was diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei or PMP for short. He completed 12 rounds of chemo at Mt. Sinai hospital in Toronto and was scheduled to undergo major surgery there as part of his treatment plan.

 Last week, the doctors at Mt. Sinai said they could not do the surgery due to the cancer being too advanced and hard to remove. With few options in Canada, he looked at other hospitals and found a PMP specialist in Pittsburgh, PA down in the United States. After a phone consult, this specialist was confident in being able to remove the tumours. 

The Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) is often referred to as the MOTHER OF ALL SURGERIES. It entails removing several organs such as the spleen, omentum, gall bladder, parts of the intestines, parts of the rectum, and possibly parts of the stomach and liver! This surgery is then followed by a heated chemotherapy bath (HIPEC) for 90 minutes to kill more cancer cells at a microscopic level. The planned stay in the hospital will be between 14 and 30 days.

These funds will be used to cover the cost of the surgery as well as accommodations and transportation costs to and from Pittsburgh for my family. Initial estimates just for the surgery alone are between $75,000 and $100,000 USD.
