Help Delilah Saunders' legal fund

Donation protected
We are fundraising a legal fund to help Delilah Saunders get the liver transplant she urgently needs to survive. Her family is hiring a lawyer to obtain an urgent injunction to force the organizations in Ontario managing the availability of liver transplants to stop discriminating against her based on her past alcohol use. If 50 people who love Delilah each donate $100, we can make this happen! The situation is urgent as Delilah could die in a matter of days without a liver transplant.

Delilah is a 26-year-old Inuit activist and advocate known for her work to raise awareness on missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and for the environmental protection of land and water. She is suffering from an acute liver failure caused by acetaminophen (knows as Tylenol) toxicity; she was taking acetaminophen to ease jaw pain and was brought to the hospital after complaining about abdominal pains. Now she could die in a matter of days if she does not receive a liver transplant that doctors say is necessary to save her life. She is ineligible however due to a discriminatory policy that enforces six months of sobriety for patients with a Substance Use Disorder. This punitive and moralistic policy has no basis in medical science; it disproportionately affects Indigenous people who struggle with intergenerational trauma brought on by residential schools, for which the Government of Canada has apologized.

$5000 will cover the most urgent legal proceedings. Any surplus will go towards further legal action if necessary. Should there be unspent money however, it will go towards covering the travel expenses of Delilah's immediate family who had to fly from Labrador to Ottawa to tend to her.

There are other ways you can help Delilah, including the possibility to volunteer as a live liver donor (fun fact: livers grow back)! For all the information, visit the  support campaign website.
