Help Dejan and Jelena replace their stolen food truck
Dejan and Jelena arrived in Ireland in 2015, coming here from Croatia for a fresh start. They were so amazed by the warm welcome they got here that Dejan applied for Irish citizenship, and received it last year.
The hardest-working couple you’ll meet, they’ve been employed full-time since then, scrimping and saving to start their dream business: a food truck.
Earlier this year, they poured their life’s savings—and hearts—into a beautiful, brand-new food truck. Having spent around €40k of their own money, they were about to realise this lifelong dream. Their official launch was scheduled this weekend at My Little Flower café in Oughterard. In preparation, they ordered €500 worth of food to make their signature sourdough sandwiches.
But last night, their dreams were literally towed away. Their food truck and equipment were stolen from right outside their home in Knocknacarra, Galway.
This isn’t just a vehicle; it’s their future livelihood. And without insurance on the trailer, there’s little hope that their business will recover from this.
Now, Dejan, Jelena and their 4-year-old son are faced with the daunting challenge of starting over from scratch. They’ve set a goal to raise €15,000 to replace what was stolen and cover the essentials to get their dream rolling again. This amount will help them purchase a second-hand truck and some equipment.
By helping them fund a replacement, we can bring them closer to reclaiming their dream and encourage the people who make Ireland a warm and welcoming place. For them, it’s not just food, it’s a labour of love.
