Help Dee Stay in College

Nicolas Winton once said, "If it's not impossible, there must be a way to do it."

In 2011 I was asked to mentor a 12 year-old "at risk" young lady from the PACE Center for Girls. Dee was three grades behind in school and angry at the world.

In 2017 I watched her graduate from high school with honors (on time) and begin college as a commuter student at Florida Southwestern State College. Dee has  always impressed me. Her drive, great attitude and work ethic continue to inspire.

After Hurricane Irma, part of her family's home in Immokalee was uninhabitable. Never one to complain--or at least not to me, this young lady continued her classes and kept her chin up.

Her family's post storm finances took a hit and her transportation to class is in jeopardy due to family work schedules (one shared car) or lack of gas money.

Dee's  never asked for help or handouts. She's worked hard for what she's earned. And she started life sans the socioeconomic benefits most of us take for granted.

It hurts my heart to think this promising young woman may lose the dream of her college education due to a lack of transportation.

Dee has a valid driver's license. If our family helped her with insurance do you guys think we can pool our resources to buy her a safe used vehicle?
