NO family should have to face the physical, emotional, and financial cost of cancer – And NO family should ever have to go through this twice with a different family member in 12 months, but that’s exactly what our parents are facing today. After supporting our brother through his cancer a year ago – our mom, Debbie Pereira-Vanlue has just been stricken with a diagnosis of colon cancer in April 2019
In March of 2018, our brother was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive stage 2 cancer. Surgery, months of intensive chemo (with many extra hospitalizations) and at the end of the chemo, we almost lost our brother to chemo induced organ failure. Through it all our mother was his primary caregiver and our parents shouldered the financial and emotional costs on their own. (Our dad, Mike Vanlue, has been self-employed for 29 years and his income dropped by 18% in 2018) – They were just now getting back on their feet.
Mom is facing a tough battle ahead and needs all our help and our Dad can’t do this on his own. For decades she has been the one to volunteer and help everyone. From working in Pre-schools, to helping in classrooms; from scouting to church volunteer; from volunteering at the Pregnancy resource center to caring for her elderly step-father, and father-in-law; and her favorite assignment – watching her grandkids. Over the years, if someone was in need, she NEVER said no, never complained and always wanted to do more. She’s been the one who cares more and gives more than you can imagine – And she needs us to step up and have her back. The costs our parents are facing (both direct and indirect) are staggering.
We are asking 3 things:
1) Pray for healing for our mom
2) Donate – Please help ease the financial burden our parents are facing at this horrible time – any amount helps – large or small – it’s all appreciated.
