Debbie is one of the kindest, most selfless people I know — and now she urgently needs our help.
Who Debbie Is
My name is Tisana and I met Debbie in 2017 when I desperately needed a live-in carer for my Mum, Una, after a serious fall. Debbie moved in and, for over seven years, she was more than a carer — she became part of our family. She gave my Mum companionship, dignity, joy and love right until my Mum passed away last year.
Debbie has lived and worked in the UK for more than 8 years. She has built her life here, supported herself honestly, and is a respected and loved member of her community.
What Happened
When my Mum died, Debbie lost not only her income but also the daily purpose she had poured her heart into. Soon after, she travelled to Zimbabwe to be with her sister during her battle with cancer — spending her last savings to be by her side. Tragically, her sister passed away in January, the last of Debbie’s immediate family. She is now completely alone.
Why This Is Urgent
Debbie is currently in the UK on a limited Leave to Remain visa under special circumstances. But due to changes in immigration law, she has been told she must return to South Africa to reapply for a new visa.
This is not only financially impossible, but emotionally and physically devastating. Debbie has no support system in South Africa and truly fears she would not survive starting over there at this stage of life.
If she can raise the funds, a solicitor can act on her behalf here in the UK — applying for an extension and protecting her from being forced out of her home.
What the Funds Will Cover
Debbie has already spent more than £25,000 on visa and legal costs over the years. She never imagined she would be in this desperate position.
Now, she urgently needs to raise funds to pay for:
Solicitor and legal representation
Home Office and Visa application fees
Associated documentation and paperwork
NHS fees
✍️ Debbie’s Words
“I’ve always worked hard and tried to be independent. But now, I am asking for help — not to start over, but simply to stay in the place I already call home. Please, if you are able, donate whatever you can. And if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign could make all the difference.
Thank you — more than words can express — for reading and for caring.”
❤️ Why Your Help Matters
Debbie gave my Mum love and care for years. Now it is our turn to care for her.
With your support, Debbie can remain in the country she calls home — safe, stable, and surrounded by the community she has given so much to.
With deepest gratitude,
Tisana
