Help Deane get back on two feet, with a prosthetic leg!
In July of 2016 Deane was admitted into the emergency room for a high grade fever and loss of feeling in her right leg, it was discovered that an infection was growing around her knee that was replaced a couple years prior. Within days Deane underwent surgery to remove the knee, and a temporary block was placed where her knee would be in order to let her body heal from the infection.
Deane spent the next 15 months with limited mobility as she was unable to put weight on the knee. She spent most of this time away from her home and family, in and out of rehabilitation centers for treatment and PT. After several forms of aggressive treatment, the infection still remained. The Doctor’s recommendation and Deane’s only option was to remove the leg before the infection spread any further. Deane agreed and surgery to amputate her right leg just above the knee was completed on October 18, 2017.
Deane has started the prosthetic fitting process and could be in her first prosthesis within the next month. Unfortunately, her insurance will not cover the full cost of the prosthetic leg. Deane’s out of pocket expense is an estimated $10,000.
Our goal is to raise the $10,000 needed for Deane to get an above the knee prosthetic leg as quickly as possible. The sooner she can get the prosthesis the sooner she can learn to walk independently again!
Deane lives in Jim Thorpe, PA with her family. She and her husband are both retired and live off of a fixed income. She is hopeful for the opportunity to take care of herself, her family and her home as she once did prior to this tragedy. She is also looking forward to getting back to spending more time with her grandkids, fishing with her husband and taking her pup for walks.
