HELP DAVIE FIX HIS NOSE BITTEN OFF BY HIS DOG.

Our dear friend, Marlene, who takes care of my mother, her son Da'vie had a horrific incident. As he was leaving his house, Da'vie bent down to say a light hearted goodbye to his family dog, Rocky, and without warning, the dog bit off his nose, literally.  Da'vie is 22, going to college, and is now in a lot of pain, received over 112 stitches to attempt to reattach his nose to his face and mend his forearm.  He is going through a range of emotions including depression and anxiety, and must undergo many surgeries.  He does not have insurance, and needs help to cover surgery to reattach his nose, and many more medical costs.  His faith and family  are helping to keep him strong , he desperately needs your help.  Here is his story, in his own words:

I'm not really good at this but here it  goes, My name is Davie Benjamin and I reside in Wilmette, IL. I attended New Trier High School and graduated in 2016. I am taking classes at Oakton Community College with aspirations of becoming a sports journalist.

Two years ago, my family and I took in a rescue baby mixed breed dog and named him Rocky. Rocky was my buddy and we all grew to love him like a family member. I was responsible for caring for and walking him. About a month ago, Rocky was hit by a car. While he survived with minor injuries, he seemed to have suffered mental trauma. He seemed to have become much more anxious and aggressive in the aftermath. I’m no dog psychologist, but I believe that accident may have triggered some underlying aggressive behavior in him that was not evident before the accident.

Last Friday I, unfortunately, experienced the most traumatic and psychologically scarring incident in my lifetime. At about 6PM, I was home with my youngest brother and I was getting ready to head out to the gym. As usual, before I headed out the door, I bent down to say goodbye to Rocky. That is when it all happened. Within a split second Rocky, without hesitation, bit my nose off my face!!! He took about 50% of my nose in a matter of seconds and inflicted some minor bites and scratches on my forearm. I went into shock and somehow managed to lock my dog in the basement and call an ambulance. The bite to my nose was so severe that the medical staff at the Evanston hospital had to call in a surgeon/specialist from the University of Illinois at Chicago to attempt to reattach my nose. I received over 112 stitches to reattach my nose to my face and mend forearm.

Over the past week, I have visited five plastic surgeons and tried to stay positive and lucid with all the pain meds I have had to take. I’ve been trying extremely hard to stay positive, but I find myself going through multiple waves of emotions each day filled with confusion, sadness, depression and anxiety about what’s ahead of me. Yes even mourning for my dog as he has been euthanized. Even though I know he was responsible for my injury, I still mourn for him as I'm sure this would not have happened if he had not had trauma to his head from the car accident.

I was given a consensus by the varying medical staffs, that there is a 20% chance of saving the mangled tissue. The alternative is an 8 hour operation that takes skin from somewhere else to replace the damaged skin. Plus, I would need a drip that maintains blood flow for at least 4 weeks. None of the surgeons we have consulted with will accept us without insurance, which makes the stakes even more grave for me, as time is of the essence. So, I am making a public plea for help cover the medical costs of multiple surgeries that I will need to undergo. I know that the road ahead is going to be tough, but I also know that God will not let me down. I know there are good people out there that will help me and my faith tells me to remain strong.

On the positive side, I am faithful Christian and believe that God has a larger plan for my life. I just have to get through this tremendous hardship/trial. Again, humbly I ask for your help and prayers. Thank you in advance for any kindness directed toward my family and I at this very difficult time. Any size donation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and God BLESS you!!!
