Dear Everyone-who-loves-David-Landolt:
My name is Karen Landolt and I am Badger’s niece (many of you may not know him by his family nickname, yet he has always been Badger to me). But for clarity’s sake, I will refer to him as David, so we all know that we are talking about the same horse-loving, bad-joke-telling, big-hearted-person that we all love.
Like all of you, I am concerned for David and Trish and Nessa and Zac and want to help him and his family reach a full recovery. And like many of you, I live far away (Austin, TX) and cannot offer the love and support in person like I would like. Therefore, I am starting this GoFundMe campaign to support David and his family while he is in the ICU and recovering from the Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (a type of hemorrhagic stroke) he suffered on December 22nd. David was home alone and cutting wood with a chainsaw when he suffered the hemorrhage. Miraculously, the chainsaw switched off as David fell on it and he managed to roll himself down the hill and call the paramedics on his own.
David had to be flown by medevac to a hospital in Chapel Hill to receive expert emergency care that is not available in West End, NC. Trish, Nessa, and Zac are staying in a hotel and eating out for all of their meals, since the hospital is over an hour and a half away from their home. David will be in intensive care until January 3rd and will not be released until January 7th. He will then have a long recovery ahead of him.
All of these unexpected expenses and time away from work is taking a big toll on his family, so I decided to set up this GoFundMe account to help his family through this crisis. Please consider donating the amount of a meal for three adults ($12.50 per person or $37.50) or the cost of one night’s stay in a Chapel Hill hotel (roughly $125 for a three-star establishment). Please help me get the word out by sharing this GoFundMe link with all of David’s friends and family. David and his family need your support now, so please donate as soon as possible.
