I have been a friend of David Kestner's family for over 20 years. David and his wife, Matysan, are a newly married couple in their 20s and are now facing a very serious and life threatening disease. They are dedicated and faithful Christians who are walking through a life changing medical diagnosis and need your help.  David was diagnosed with Fabry Disease, a genetic disease that attacks kidney, heart, and other organs. His kidneys shut down and he was on dialysis for eight months.  David just had a life saving kidney transplant from a kidney donated by his brother and will have ongoing medical visits and expenses to help control this ongoing disease. David is unable to work at this time and has long distance hospital visits, medications, travel, and living expenses that need funding. He has to travel round trip to UVA Hospital twice a week for treatments. He also has specific genetically design medication that he needs to treat his ongoing disease. That’s part of the promise we made to each other, part of what our rings symbolize. I was reminded of that often this week, as I not only watched my husband take on “sickness” but I wore his ring beneath my own when he couldn’t wear it himself. Sickness that I first thought must’ve been bad Chinese food. Sickness that I thought would end after a few hours in the ER. Sickness that could have taken my husband’s life. BUT ALSO — in health. Health that we once took for granted. Health that will be restored, in the name of JESUS. We are praising the Lord today that we were able to bring David home! Midnight tonight would have made a week since I took him to the ER. If you haven’t seen my earlier posts, my husband David is experiencing stage five kidney failure. During our 6 days in the hospital, he received several treatments of dialysis, had many tests run, and this morning had a new (more permanent) port put in so that he can receive dialysis at an outpatient facility. For those who have been following our story, here is the update: we are home and exhausted, but rejoicing together for the Lord’s hand over David’s life! While his stay in the hospital is over, our journey has only just begun. Until it is time for him to receive a transplant, or until the Lord miraculously heals him, he will continue to receive dialysis. Because of the severity of his condition, as well as his dialysis treatments, he still has rough days and is not at 100%. But the Lord our God is providing strength and peace each day! Continue to pray: - For David’s kidneys to be healed and bring God glory! (God will receive all the Glory, as medically they are beyond repair). - For his strength as he continues treatment - For his body to accept his new dialysis port - For the doctors who are still looking into his condition to have wisdom and clarity as they guide us through the days ahead. I cannot stress our gratefulness to each of you enough! You have gone above and beyond and have blessed us so much! As we are adjusting to a new way of life, I want to thank you for understanding when we are unable to respond to everyone.
