Help David out of the WOODS and into a HOME :-)

Donation protected
**Update:  GREAT NEWS!  Thanks to all your donations David was able to get out of the woods!  Please read the latest update (in the "Updates"section) for the whole story!

The original Campaign:

This is David.

He's a friend of mine that toughs it out in the woods in Laval, Quebec.

I met David in the summer of 2020 while I was on a walk in the woods and he was at "home".  We had a good chat and I came by to visit and bring some "extras" over the course of the summer and fall.  And in the bitter cold of winter.

Yep, he is still there, toughing it out in his make-shift -tent- not made for our brutal winters, unfortunately.

David is a proud boy scout who has made the best of his situation.  He enjoys being autonomous, but realizes the limitations and, now, hardship of his situation.   Despite this he always greets me with a smile, and we have great conversations about so many things!

He would like to get back to work, but unfortunately, where he lives now makes it impossible to power up his cell phone  to look for work, let alone get  cleaned up and go to interviews.

Oh, and this virus thing isn't helping, of course.

Look, David doesn't like to ask for charity.  Like I said, he is a proud boy scout and loves to work and be autonomous.  (he even made his own stove out of concrete blocks he found to get through the brutally cold winter).  Thankfully, the winter is coming to an end, but it was a tough one. Fingers and toes are no match for the -20 degree cold snaps.  Luckily, he survived it.  Spring is coming, yay!  but, unfortunately, that just means  melting snow, drenching his tent and few belongings.

Currently his face, hands and clothes are black from the smoke of the fires he makes to stay warm.  And, yet,  he is still smiling.  That said, what may seem simple to a lot of us, like a shower, a decent shelter, proximity to hot coffee... would be a massive turning point in his life.

He needs out of this situation.

The first goal here is to get David a van.  Yep, a van!  To live in.  So he can live closer to amenities, where he can power up on hot coffee, grab a shower, have good cell connection etc...  These would all be massive improvements for him. And, yes, we do have a safe legal place for him to park and live.  He is still working with a social worker to find housing, but they are having no luck, and frankly a van serves many more purposes at the moment.  It's a desired step-up in living accommodations, it is a vehicle that can be driven to job interviews and to facilities to get cleaned up.  It can also be driven to any skills upgrading courses David chooses to pursue (he's a huge programming/computer buff!)

So... we are fundraising to help get David his VAN!  He will also need to register and insure it as well as make it liveable.  It DOESN'T have to be fancy, but it does need to be usable and liveable.

How your donations will be used:

*Van purchase
*Registration
*Insurance
*Non-fancy-make-liveable touches (he has most of what he needs for that)
*Repairs
*Miscellaneous / Unknown surprises

We are more than happy to keep in touch with you with updates about David even after the funds are raised.     You'll get to witness the step by step :-) and can be super proud of what you have contributed to.
