My Dad, David has been the rock of our family for, well, all of my life. He and my mom have been married for almost 33 years. They’ve been through A LOT, and now we’re all trying to navigate his quickly progressing Dementia (FTD)…mostly my mom. She’s been his sole caretaker for months, and it’s at the point where she’s dressing, bathing and now essentially feeding him. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to watch and know that there’s not much I can do from 300 miles away. She’s currently on personal leave from work (which means she’s received 0% of her recent paychecks). We’re hoping for another route after her leave is over, but between her non-existent/decreased pay, finding an in-home caretaking service or memory/senior center(s), mom cannot keep doing this on her own. She cannot physically, mentally, emotionally or financially keep doing this, while also trying to work full time, and somehow find a minute to take care of herself. I haven’t experienced anything like this, and can only imagine what she’s dealing with as his wife (in sickness and in health, right?) Anyway this is me doing something to help. And I hope you can help. - Emilie
