Help Daniel Striped Tiger bring an end to FIP

Donation protected

Hi there! My name is Daniel Striped Tiger and I was born July 4, 2020. My sister Catie and I were found all alone by nice people who took us to Juliet’s House, an animal rescue in Greensboro, North Carolina. We were medically taken care of and treated so we could find our furever home. There was one condition, we couldn’t be separated. Catie and I were a team so if one of us was adopted, the other had to tag along to!

It didn’t take long! Many people couldn’t wait to take my sister and I in. We were just too stinking cute and applications poured in. Juliet’s House did an amazing job on choosing our parents. A day before our 3 month birthday on October 3rd, we finally met our mom and dad!

After a long trip to Charlotte, we finally arrived. It was there that I met my new brothers and sisters and boy we were just as excited as they were. Catie and I couldn’t be happier, a place to finally call home.

Mom made sure to keep us healthy with the best food and dad let everyone know on our Internet blog that we were part of the family (blog link). We had so many toys and even a play house dad built himself. We had a backyard to run in and could go outside anytime our parents did, as long as we stayed in the yard and didn’t go pass the house.

Just to make sure we never strayed from the house, mom made sure to make all our neighbors know Catie and I had a furever home. She even gifted me a brand new tie with my name on it and a small watch charm, just like Daniel Tiger from Mr. Rogers!

On April 5, 2021 Mom noticed I wasn’t being as playful as I usually am. She knew something wasn’t right and made an appointment at Harrisburg Animal Hospital. I was able to see my favorite veterinarian, Dr. Reynolds. Because of a pandemic, mom couldn’t come in with me but just assumed I had a stomach bug and needed some antibiotics. When Dr. Reynolds came out to speak with her without me, mom knew something wasn’t right.

I was dying...

My parents refused to give up on me and as the minutes went by from being diagnosed,

I started to rapidly decline. None of us knew what Feline Infectious Peritonitis was, also known as FIP but we found out very quickly it has a 100% mortality rate. FIP is a viral disease caused by FCov (feline coronavirus). This can occur in cats of all ages, but this is most common in young cats less than two years of age, like me. There are no test to prove FIP except the process of eliminating other possible illnesses. It is one of the least understood cat diagnosis to this day.

My parents, uncertain how this could even happen as none of my siblings ever caught this, discussed what my options were. Mom decided to request my lab work and try to make sense of what was happening. Within minutes of arriving home, it was then her research began and my recovery to FIP.

It was a do or die situation that had no time to spare. At 2am, after many phone calls that night from all over the country, mom and dad located an emergency vial of the medication I needed to survive from someone who had an extra to spare. Organizations like FIP Warriors was able to assist my parents in locating my life saving medicine. Within 24 hours of first being diagnose with FIP, mom traveled to get it and I had my first dose. It’s a series of 84 shots taken 84 days and it’s not that affordable. There are also different versions of GS-441524 for other FIP symptoms and the milligram of the medicine and amount you take differs. There are also added costs for syringes, prep pads and other necessities like having my blood work done every other month. Each vial contains 6ml which is only 3 days worth of medicine for me. At $90 per vial, costs can add up very quickly. But, if you knew my parents, you’d know they are very persistent and will do anything to take care of me and my siblings. My estimated costs are around $4,200.00. This includes everything I will need for my treatments. If you could help in anyway you can I would be so grateful and so would my mom and dad.
