Help Dale fight Leukemia

Donation protected
Good day everyone! I am starting this campaign for Dale, my nephew in the Philippines, who is fighting against Leukemia right now.

Drysdale Lanz Dacanay Sanchez was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML); a type of cancer in the blood last December 2018. Dale was born with his identical twin, Dash on March 28, 2011 and currently at a young age of 9. He is a jolly, energetic and strong kid who is bravely fighting for his life alongside with a very supportive family, especially with his twin brother.

It was very shocking and heartbreaking for our family that time after Christmas when Dale was rushed to the hospital because of high fever for days and later on confirmed by his doctor that he has a Leukemia. This kind of cancer in the blood affects white blood cells, which is the key to our body’s immune system and responsible for fighting infections. This is one of the most common cancer that afflicts children. It is an acute illness which means it spreads rapidly in the patient’s body. AML interferes with the production of normal white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets that can also affect other organs including lymph nodes, liver, spleen, central nervous system (brain & spinal chord), and testicles.

Dale has been through a series of chemotherapies for almost two years now. Even at an early age, he already understands that he needs to be treated which is why he is very cooperative by being so obedient to his parents. He has a very big appetite except after every chemotherapy session. He eats green healthy vegetables and fruits without forcing him to do so. Dale is also very playful and has a very positive energy which give the family strength and high hopes that he will overcome this battle with leukemia.

February this year we are all relieved by the good news that his bone marrow is back to producing healthy blood cells and fully invaded all the cancer cells in his body. We are really happy that after more than a year of in & out and spending most of the year in the hospital, Dale is finally almost back to normal. He will only need to take oral chemo medicines daily as maintenance. Everything was looking great until last March of this year when the pandemic started. My brother and sister in law, Joel and Grace - Dale’s parents, have decided to bring him back to the hospital because he is bruising and looks pale again. After several laboratory tests, his doctor sadly delivered the news that the results are showing positive signs for the Leukemia RELAPSE. His platelet count dropped down to 9 only out of 150-340 normal value. These results are extremely alarming so that the usual first aid which is the blood transfusions were done immediately. It was very hard that time at the peak of COVID until now to instantly get blood because of shortage in the blood banks and donors are afraid to go to donation sites which is understandable due to the pandemic. We are very thankful to those who willingly donated for Dale and other people who risks their safety just to supply blood to different blood centers. After that, Dale started again his chemotherapy treatment hoping that it will be as effective as the previous one before his relapse. After finishing the cycle of his recent chemo, tests and observations for a week, Dale’s doctor said that it looks like chemotheraphy does not help destroying the cancer cells anymore even though he increased the dosage of the medicines. We are all again devastated by that news because we all thought that he already have won the fight.

Unfortunately, Dale and our whole family is on for the next and much bigger battle after his doctor had no other choice but to do the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). The said treatment is one of the single most costly health care procedures which is why we decided to raise this campaign. Dale’s father lost his job as well amidst the pandemic. Bone marrow transplant in the Philippines costs 2 to 4 million pesos ( 40,000 usd – 80,000 usd) because there are only two hospitals in the whole country that offers this kind of procedure.

Before undergoing bone marrow transplant, Dale needs extensive sessions of chemotherapies, a lot of blood transfusions, and numerous medical procedures to stabilize his body to prepare for the intricate procedure. He is presently at the Philippine Children’s Medical Centre, Quezon City and started the pre-transplant treatments including the required two cycle chemotherapies for his transplant scheduled at St. Luke’s Medical Centre, Philippines on December this year.

This bone marrow transplant is our hope and Dale’s hope since the cancer cells became really aggressive. We are knocking on your kind hearts to please help us win this fight. Any financial donation will be much appreciated and will be a huge help for our family to support our little warrior, Dale. We will use everything that we will receive from this campaign to fund all the medical bills, treatments and countless other unknown expenses that this battle may bring. We are also asking to please include Dale’s fast healing and success of his upcoming bone marrow transplant in your prayers. Thank you and God bless us all.

MESSAGE from DASH (right) and DALE (left)

(" Hello, my name is Drysdale Lanz and I am 9 years old. I have a twin brother named Dashielle, you can call him Dash and me, Dale. We both love cars, and when we are outside we always look at cars and name it one by one. When I grow up, I want to be a driver and so does Dash. I stopped going to school because of leukemia, I miss my classmates and teachers. I love to sing and dance in school with my twin brother. Please, help me get a transplant. I used to cry a lot when they put needles on me, but now I only cry a little. Thank you. ")
