Daiyah, 21, from a village near Mikindani, Kenya, has faced immense challenges since losing her father. She put her education on hold to support her family, but she hasn’t given up on her dream—studying Clinical Medicine and Surgery at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
To support herself, Daiyah started baking! She creates delicious treats like cakes, cookies, croissants, cupcakes, fudgy brownies, cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, and ice lollies. She also makes refreshing fresh juices—like mango, tamarind, and passion fruit juice—and sells them to her classmates and the local community.
However, Daiyah faces significant challenges in baking without an electric oven. The jiko (charcoal stove) she uses is difficult to control, and at times it leads to burned cookies, bruised hands, and even painful burns. Plus, it’s hard to bake consistently when she can’t see how her goods are cooking.
To continue pursuing her education and growing her business, Daiyah needs $1,000:
$300 to buy an electric oven to help her bake more efficiently, reduce burns, and increase her production capacity.
$400 for ingredients and supplies to meet the increasing demand for her baked goods and juices.
$300 for starter funds for her tuition at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), where she plans to study Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
Getting into KMTC is not just a dream—it’s Daiyah’s pathway to a better future for herself and her family. She wants to use her education to help support her mother and younger siblings, and ultimately contribute to her community.
Your support can help Daiyah take the next step in her journey, starting with an oven and ending with a medical degree that will change her life. Let’s help her make this dream a reality!
Some words on why I’m launching this campaign: I (Sebastian Frisch) first traveled to Kenya as a volunteer for the Baobab Family Children’s Home in 2007. During that trip, I had the privilege of meeting Mody, Daiyah's father, who quickly became one of my best friends and soul buddy. Over the years, I spent countless days and nights at their home, watching Daiyah grow up and witnessing the incredible strength and love within their family.
When Mody passed away, it left a hole in all of our hearts, but it also inspired me to support his family and become a pillar of strength for them, just as Mody was for me. Daiyah’s determination and passion for a brighter future are inspiring, heartwarming, and deserve to be supported.
I’ve seen Daiyah’s unwavering commitment to bettering her life, and I have no doubt that with your help, she will achieve her goals.
Thank you for supporting her and being part of this journey. Your kindness will make a world of difference in her life.
Thank you for your kindness and support. ❤️
