Help Dahlia Heal: Support Her Vet Care
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Rylee Castro and this is Dahlia my 15 year old Arabian Bay Mare. I rescued her in January 2024. She was in a neglectful abusive home when rawhyde rescues took her into their care with a foster family. Where I eventually had found her from. Recently she has started limping on her front right shoulder and her shoulder is half the size of her left one. We let her rest for 2 weeks and it only got worse. We had Pacific Crest Vet come out and take a look and they did X-rays to try to find the problem only they couldn't find one. So now we are waiting for an appt with a Vet in Paso Robles (2 hours from me) for an Ultrasound for her shoulder. So far I have paid $500 in vet bills and will be looking at more ( I have no clue yet how much more) very soon after the ultrasound. Not to mention anything else we have to do after the ultrasound. I have talked to a couple of Vets and told them about our situation and they are pointing towards Sweeney. (Sweeney shoulder, also known as suprascapular neuropathy, is a condition in horses that causes muscle atrophy in the shoulder). In mild cases Physical Therapy and medication can help but in more severe surgery is needed to remove the scar tissue from the nerve that is damaged. We don't know if this blunt force injury was caused by her previous home and is now resurfacing from new work or if she hurt herself at her current boarding. But there is always a possibility of it being something different and we always have the possibility of having to put her down. I am asking for help to pay for these unexpected vet bills and if you cant help please share!! Thank you!!!
