I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help in supporting my beloved dog, Cypress, as he battles an aggressive form of cancer. Cypress who had never been sick a day in his life previously, was recently diagnosed with small intestine adenocarcinoma, a rare and devastating cancer that affects the lining of his intestines. This type of cancer accounts for only about 0.3% of all canine tumors, making it incredibly difficult to study and treat effectively. Due to its rarity and aggressive nature, many treatment plans rely on generalized approaches that may not be as effective for Cypress’s unique case.
Why We Need Your Help
Cypress is currently undergoing chemotherapy, but we recently learned about a groundbreaking technology that could provide a more precise and effective treatment path for him. Our veterinarian recommended a service from VetOmics called Canine Comprehensive Genomic Profiling (Canine CGP), a cutting-edge diagnostic tool that could change everything!
What is Canine Comprehensive Genomic Profiling?
VetOmics is a leader in veterinary cancer diagnostics, and their Canine CGP test is the most comprehensive genomic analysis available for canine cancer. This test performs whole exome sequencing, analyzing over 20,000 coding genes to identify genetic mutations driving the cancer. It detects multiple mutation types, including:
Single Nucleotide Variants (SNVs) – Small changes in the DNA sequence
Copy Number Variants (CNVs) – Duplications or deletions of genetic material
Internal Tandem Duplications (ITDs) – Repetitive DNA insertions that drive tumor growth
Fusions & Rearrangements – Structural DNA changes linked to cancer progression
Loss of Heterozygosity (LOH) – A marker for aggressive tumor behavior
Tumor Mutational Burden (TMB) – A key indicator of how well Cypress might respond to immunotherapy.
By analyzing Cypress’s tumor at the molecular level, this profiling could help identify targeted therapies that are far more effective than traditional treatments. This means we have the opportunity to personalize Cypress’s treatment and significantly improve his chances of fighting this disease.
How Your Donation Helps: Fostering Medical Research
We are seeking funds to cover the cost of this genomic profiling. This service is at the cutting edge of veterinary oncology, and while it offers hope, it is expensive. The total estimated cost for the genomic profiling is $2,000, which is why I am turning to the kindness of our community for help.
Beyond helping Cypress, your support will also contribute to a greater scientific understanding of canine adenocarcinoma. Furthering the research and helping foster further scientific advances in adenocarcinoma treatment is extremely important to me. Cypress is more than just a pet—he's family and he has been my best friend for 8 years. He is my heart dog and I will never have another dog as special as he is.
