Help Cure CBD in Memory of Chuck

Tax deductible
Charles "Chuck" McFarlin first knew something was off five years ago when he suddenly had a problem tying his shoelaces. Shortly after, he was formally diagnosed with corticobasal degeneration (CBD). CBD is a relentless degenerative neurological disease that belongs to the progressive supra nuclear palsy (PSP) family.

The National Institute for Health defines CBD as a progressive neurological disorder characterized by nerve cell loss and atrophy of multiple areas of the brain. Symptoms are similar to those found in Parkinson disease, such as poor coordination, cognitive and visual-spatial impairments, difficulty swallowing, and the loss of the ability to make familiar, purposeful movements.

Prior to diagnosis, Chuck was a master mechanic, educator, Ph.D., business owner, pilot, race car driver, basketball player, loving father, and husband.  People who knew Chuck knew that he was fiercely independent, stubborn as hell, and never met a mechanical challenge he couldn't solve.

However, as his disease progressed, Chuck quickly lost the ability to use his hands, robbing him of the activities that he loved. He could no longer turn wrenches, drive cars, fly planes, or write.  Eventually his ability to walk, to read, and to speak were erased.  More than just hobbies, it deprived him of holding his first grandson, walking his daughter down the aisle, and enjoying retirement with his beloved wife of 42 years.

Chuck was passionate about science. At his first meeting with the physician that diagnosed him with CBD, during which he learned that the disease was severely debilitating and incurable, Chuck was adamant that his brain be donated for scientific research. He wanted to contribute something so that future patients and families would be spared the suffering that he and his family have endured the last five years.

In honor of Chuck's passion for advancing science, this memorial fund will donate 100% of the money raised for the CurePSP Foundation.  This foundation works to connect patients and those affected to a network of support, providing information, education, and funding research into treatments and a cure.  By donating to CurePSP, you are honoring Chuck’s memory by helping discover a cure for this devastating disease. Chuck has already donated his brain for this cause.  Any monetary donation you could provide would be impactful as well.  Please donate now.  Thank you!
