HELP Covington Family Heal After Head-on Collision
Care & Medical Expenses

Dec 16, 2020

Jennifer Covington was traveling with Joshua Garefalos the son of her family friend whom she delightfully refers to as her stepson and another passenger a minor who's name will not be disclosed but she is referred to just longingly as her little niece was heading out to her tenants home to replace a recently broken window from high winds and falling tree branches. While traveling on hwy 190 Jennifer and her 2 passengers were struck head-on by an oncoming vehicle. Joshua and the minor were able to exit the car on their own at Jennifer’s insistence, however, Jennifer was pinned in the car by the dash. Emergency workers freed her from the car with the jaws of life. Joshua and the minor were able to be transported by ambulance but Jennifer had to be life-flighted.

As of 12.19.2020 both Jennifer and Joshua have undergone surgeries already and are being prepped for more. Joshua has head trauma, skull fractures, and internal swelling of his brain, he is due a second surgery tomorrow. The minor passenger suffered trauma from the impact of the airbag that knocked her unconscious, thankfully she was released from the hospital and is with her family at this time. Jennifer has broken her right hand, 9 broken ribs 1-8 on her right side and 1 on her left side, her right leg is broken in 3 places and has been secured by steel rods that will be removed on her next surgery being scheduled for Sunday.

Jennifer is the mother of her young son of 4, he is safe with family friends at this time and thankfully was not involved in the collision. This is also making an impact on him as well, he is used to his routine of just being him and Mommy taking on the world. So this is a big adjustment for the little fellow too. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Both Jennifer and Joshua will have a long recovery. Her doctor has advised a possible release date of some time next week if all goes well. She will have at least 6 months of hard recovery and being immobile. She will be needing in-home care for herself and her young son as she will be immobile for the majority of that time. Jennifer is a hard-working, generous mother whose life is dedicated to her son. Right now she will be needing some dedicated care of her own too. Joshua is a thoughtful, loving young man that is there when his friends and family need him. He and his sister had just come down to visit and spend the Holidays in Texas from out of state just last week.

Right now this family needs a little help and support in any way that it can be had. Covid has affected everyone including Jennifer and Joshua they too have been displaced from work and without insurance. Mounting expenses from procedures and aftercare essentials needed for recovery are a real challenge. Waiting for updates on Joshua’s needs as far as recovery but again please keep this whole family in your prayers. The hospital staff has been very kind and loving a big thank you to them and the emergency workers for their life-saving skills. Most of all we Thank God for His love in keeping these precious people that we love here with us for better days ahead.

Thank you for reading their story. Your support is appreciated no matter how big or small you may think your action is, trust me it helps. You can help support their recovery either by simply sharing this story for others to read and your prayers. If you have the ability to donate please do every penny counts here. If you have medical equipment that may be useful for their long term care at home would be a blessing, just contact me through this GoFundMe article. Please keep this extended family in your prayers.

Will keep you posted on the progress made.
