Help Cover Albert's Double Knee Surgery Expenses

Donation protected
Albert is our sweet 7 year old Tibetan Spaniel. If you know Chase and I, you know how big of a part of the family Albert really is. He is spoiled rotten and loved unconditionally by us, our family and friends, and the students of Pocomoke High School (where he likes to visit somedays with his teacher-mom).

Recently, Albert suddenly lost full mobility in his back legs. We took him to the Vet, thinking that he injured himself somehow. After a couple of weeks of rest, our regular Vet was able to do x-rays and determined that there was some problem with his knees and referred us to an Orthopedic Vet.

Yesterday (10/8) we drove up to Delmar with Albert to Peninsula Animal Hospital and Orthopedics for his long awaited consult with an Orthopedic Vet. We were told that Albert has relatively severe hind-leg deformations. The deformities, along with severe arthritic bone changes, have progressed enough that all of sudden he is having severe mobility issues. The ligaments that hold his knee caps in place have shifted to the inside of his legs. Because of this, his knee caps are currently on the insides of his thigh bones. The ligaments were not protecting the knee so the bone ridges that hold the knee cap in place are completely worn down. These ridges will need to be reshaped. Also, both ACL tendons tore because of all of the misalignment and will need to be replaced with synthetic tendons.

It is estimated that the total cost of the surgery will be about $5700 and Albert will need additional prescriptions along the way. The first surgery will take place near Christmas, and the second will take place a few months after (to allow the first leg to heal).

We are humbly asking the help of friends and family to help us take care of Albert. We are fully prepared to do the surgery regardless of our ability to fundraise because Albert is our baby! However, you can imagine the financial stress that a $6k surgery can put on two teachers, especially around Christmas! If you would like to make a donation in a different way, please reach out to us! The first surgery will be December so we are hoping to have $3000 saved up/fundraised by then, and then the other $3000 in later months.

We love you all so much! We are blessed to have such an amazing support system! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

We will continue to post updates as we have them!
