The good news is that Lymphoma is a treatable cancer and Courtney is going to kick it in the butt! Courtney has such a positive attitude and is ready to put up a fight in order to get back to being a healthy and happy mom to her 15-month-old daughter Nova, a loving partner to Marcus and the big-hearted family member and friend that we know and love.
The bad news is that before Courtney can kick cancer’s butt, she will need to attend chemotherapy treatments, which last several hours, every other week for the next six months. There are many costs associated with the treatments, including anti-nausea medications, travel and parking for hospital appointments, daycare while Courtney and Marcus attend these appointments and a wig and/or other hair-loss solutions. For example, Courtney was quoted $3,000 for a wig!
Currently, Courtney is trying to maintain her full-time corporate job in the oil and gas industry in Calgary while attending chemotherapy treatments, many other appointments, raising Nova and balancing other life commitments. Courtney has been told that cancer patients typically undergoing this type of chemotherapy do not work while doing so. However, Courtney is a contractor at her job and does not have the type of health insurance or medical disability insurance that will pay for time off work. Courtney has completed her first session of chemotherapy and is already feeling the ill-effects .
Although it is difficult for Courtney to reach out to her loved ones and to ask for help, we know that she would be the first person there if any of her friends or family were going through something similar. Any well-wishes, positive thoughts or monetary contributions that you may wish to send to Courtney will be greatly appreciated in easing her burden. Please spread the word.
