Help Courtnee become a Midwife

Hi friends!

As many of you know, supporting families during the epic transformation of the childbearing year is my life's greatest passion. My journey towards becoming a midwife began a few months after my first child was born in 2014 at a local freestanding birth center attended by a loving midwife

My birth experience was one of the most empowering moments in my life and set the stage for me to bloom confidently into parenthood. I was able to take a primary role in my own maternity care but also knew that I had a skilled midwife to support both my baby and I in case any complications arose.

At the time, like almost half of all families in the greater Sacramento region,  I was on medi-cal and one of the main reasons I chose my provider was because she accepted my insurance. Sadly, even 6 years later, there is only one other midwife in our area who openly welcomes folks on medi-cal into their practice. All families deserve access to competent and safe maternity care but not every family can afford the typical $4000+ investment that comes with maternity care outside of the hospital system.

I left my birth experience grateful to have received such kind and affordable care as I blossomed into a mother.  My positive birth experience emboldened me to begin supporting other families on their journey as a non-clinical member of their care team, all the while sitting with my deep desire to pursue midwifery.

Being a doula has been a wonderful step on that path. Since 2016 I have supported over 50 families from all walks of life welcome their own babies both inside and outside of the hospital.

After sitting with my passion for almost 7 years I feel the calling to become a midwife stronger than ever.

My goal is to enroll in the National College of Midwifery's ASM program this Summer with the purpose of becoming a trauma-informed community midwife that will expand access to safe and affordable midwifery care for folks on medi-cal or who are underinsured.

I plan on receiving my clinical training from the wonderful folks at Welcome Home Community Birth Center who are dedicated to providing stellar client-centered midwifery care at their birth center in South Sacramento.

If you would like to support me on my journey,  I would be immensely grateful for any donation, like, or share. In the meantime, I will be providing virtual doula support on a "pay what you can" sliding scale for folks looking for extra support as they navigate birthing in the ever-changing challenges that arise due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Any donations will help lessen the burden of paying for school and allow me the sapce to dedicate myself to my studies and supporting families.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
