Bonifacio Valera, Jr. was a beacon of warmth and wisdom, touching countless lives through his kindness, patience, and love of traditional Filipino arts and culture. In the late 1980s, he founded Barangay Dance Company and spent the next three decades teaching folk dance, not just as an art form but as a way to unite communities and instill pride in Filipino heritage. Through his dedication, he inspired generations of students to embrace and celebrate their roots, ensuring that the rhythms, movements, and stories of Filipino folk dance lived on. His passion was not just about preserving tradition but about creating lasting connections and fostering a deep appreciation for the beauty of our heritage. This scholarship is a heartfelt tribute to his incredible legacy, ensuring that his love for traditional Filipino arts continues to uplift and empower future generations.

Why This Matters: Traditional Filipino arts and cultural expressions are at risk of being lost in the face of modernization. Many aspiring artists and cultural practitioners lack the financial resources to dedicate themselves fully to their craft. This scholarship will help remove barriers, allowing recipients to train, study, and pass on their knowledge to future generations.
