Siamo Rabindra & Federica di Garima Voyage ! Come alcuni di voi sanno, io vengo dal Nepal, precisamente da Melamchi nel distretto di Sindhupalchowk, a 40 km a nord di Kathmandu. E con Federica lavoriamo nella zona da molti anni per progetti di sviluppo con le autorita' locali, regionali, amici, conoscenti italiani, nepalesi...

Abbiamo, nel 2018 insieme a SAT (societa' alpinisti tridentini), realizzato un progetto di mappatura sentieristica nella zona di Melamchi Helambu e Panchpokhari! Abbiamo individuato nel Turismo un veicolo di sviluppo, per fornire fonti di reddito alla comunita' locale e promuovere sviluppo rurale della zona. Ogni anno abbiamo aggiunto sulle nostre mappe e nella nostra promozione turistica dei sentieri utilizzati dai locali e proprio domani sarebbe dovuto partire il nostro team per realizzare mappatura, segnaletica, reportage di un altro pezzo di sentiero nella zona Panchpokhari che si sarebbe collegato alla nostra rete sentieristica. Purtroppo nella mattinata di ieri abbiamo ricevuto delle notizie devastanti: il mio comune insieme a quello di Panchpokhari e Helambu e' stato devastato da un'alluvione provocata da alcune frane che sono cadute nel fiume provocando dighe naturali, queste si sono riempite di acqua, fino ad esplodere in bombe di fango, travolgendo la valle!

I monsoni in Nepal hanno sempre provocato danni. Solo l'anno scorso 400 morti! Quest'anno si prevedono di un'intensita' ancora maggiore. Infatti le piogge sono anche iniziate in anticipo, ma in solo una settimana hanno provocato questo disastro! Dobbiamo intervenire!!

La situazione e' emergenziale. Abbiamo appena ricevuto un'altra allerta riguardo possibili ulteriori frane e smottamenti nella zona per la continua pioggia.

Gli sfollati sono migliaia. Almeno 300 case distrutte con altrettante famiglie lasciate senza piu' nulla! I dispersi sono ancora parecchie decine. Ponti e strade spazzate vie, in molti casi unico collegamento per i villaggi che ora si trovano in pericolo e bloccati.

L'esercito, le forze di polizia, molti volontari si sono gia' attivati per aiutare le persone, con interventi anche molto rischiosi. La disperazione si legge sui visi delle persone che hanno perso TUTTO!

E in questo momento, la cosa piu' importante e' non lasciarli SOLI.

Qualsiasi contributo, anche il piu' piccolo, puo' fare la differenza per queste persone che conosciamo, con cui abbiamo lavorato e con cui abbiamo sognato insieme un futuro luminoso!

Questa comunita' ha gia' sofferto cosi tanto. Il terremoto nel 2015 ci ha visti in prima linea sul territorio e la devastazione era tremenda. Ma la mia comunita' e' forte! Si sono rialzati e hanno ricostruito!

Anche questa non ci voleva per un territorio che si stava appena riprendendo e che aveva puntato sul turismo per la ripresa.

Sindhupalchokw durante il terremoto scala 7.9 Richter, e' stato il distretto piu' colpito, con oltre la meta' dei danni e morti complessivi di tutta la nazione! E' un territorio fragile ma incantato e che noi ci siamo impegnati a promuovere e proteggere! E ora ci viene chiesto di intervenire in aiuto a questa situazione di emergenza.

Questa orrenda situazione e' resa ancora piu' pericolosa dalla diffusione della variante indiana del COVID-19, molto contagiosa e che ha reso gli ospedali impraticabili negli ultimi mesi. E' importante intervenire perche' un disastro cosi non peggiori in un disastro sanitario.

Abbiamo quindi pensato che questa modalita' poteva essere quella piu' veloce e indicata per intervenire in emergenza. Vi chiediamo quindi di aiutarci a raccogliere fondi per comprare

altri materiali d'emergenza (teli impermeabili...)

I fondi raccolti verranno organizzati in due modi:

1. la maggior parte verra' mandata in Nepal al nostro team che in coordinazione con i comuni di Melamchi, Panchpokhari e Helambu e le autorita' regionali provvedera' a organizzare, trasportare e distribuire il materiale ai bisognosi

2. una parte verra' utilizzata per pagare il cargo che stiamo provando ad organizzare con materiale di utilita' per tale situazione di emergenza (in caso non fosse possibile anche questa parte di fondi verra' mandata in Nepal)

We are Rabindra & Federica of di Garima Voyage! As some of you know, I am from Nepal, precisely from Melamchi in the Sindhupalchowk district, 40 km north of Kathmandu. And with Federica we have been working in the area since many years in development project with local authorities, friends, Italian and Nepali

We have, together with SAT (organization of Mountaineers), realizing a project in the zones of Melamchi Helambu and Panchpokhari! We see in tourism a tool for development, to provide income for local community and promote rural development. Every year we have added on our map and in our touristic promotion some routes used by locals. Even tomorrow our team should have left to realize signals, board, mapping reportage of another pieace of routes in Panchpokhari that was to be connected with our routes network. Unfortunately in the morning of yesterday we have received devastating news: my municipality together with Panchpokhari e Helambu has been devastated by a flood due to some landslide that falling in the river have created natural dams, later exploding as mud bombs, devastating the valley!

The monsoons in Nepal are always provoking deaths. Only about 400 deaths last year! This is not the first time we've seen it happen. But this year the rains even started early, and in just a week they caused this disaster! We must intervene!!

It is an emergency situation. We have just received another alert regarding possible further landslides and landslides in the area due to the continued rain.

The displaced are thousands. At least 300 houses destroyed with as many families left with nothing left! There are still several dozen missing. Bridges and roads swept streets, in many cases the only link for the villages that are now in danger and blocked.

The army, the police forces, many volunteers have already taken steps to help people, even with very risky interventions. Despair can be read on the faces of people who have lost EVERYTHING!

Right now the most important thins is to not let them ALONE!

Any contribution, even the smallest, can make a difference for these people we know, with whom we have worked and with whom we have dreamed of a bright future together!

This community has already suffered so much. The earthquake in 2015 saw us at the forefront of the territory and the devastation was tremendous. But my community is strong! They got up and rebuilt!

This disaster was not needed for an area that was just recovering and that had focused on tourism for the recovery.

Sindhupalchokw during the 7.9 Richter earthquake was the most affected district, with over half of the total damage and deaths of the whole nation! It is a fragile but enchanted territory that we are committed to promoting and protecting! And now we are being asked to intervene in aid of this emergency situation.

This horrendous situation is made even more dangerous by the spread of the Indian variant of COVID-19, very contagious and which has made hospitals impracticable in recent months. It is important to intervene so that a disaster like this does not worsen into a health disaster.

We therefore thought that this modality could be the fastest and most suitable for emergency intervention. We therefore ask you to help us raise funds to manage:

• food

• tends

• construction material for temporary shelters

• medicines

• blankets

• clothes

• kitchen utensils

• gas for cooking

• other emergency materials (waterproof sheets ...)

• sanitizing gels

• masks

• COVID-19 infection protection material

• organization of relief packages for victims

• relief packages

• construction material for temporary shelters

• construction material for security of river bed (gabions..)

The funds raised will be organized in two ways:

1. most of them will be sent to Nepal to our team who, in coordination with the municipalities of Melamchi, Panchpokhari and Helambu and the regional authorities, will organize, transport and distribute the material to the needy

2. a part will be used to pay for a cargo we are trying to organize with useful material for this emergency situation (if this is not possible, this part of the funds will also be sent to Nepal)
