Colleens Alaskan Adventure with ALS

It’s been a two-year battle for Colleen fighting a disease known as ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Colleen’s battle began with feelings of weakness in her hands leading her to believe she may be suffering from carpal tunnel. Over the next 6 months, Colleen began having difficulty speaking and swallowing. After many doctor visits and seeing a neurologist, the consensus was that stress was the culprit.
Colleen became weary, her speech was deteriorating quickly and with the upcoming wedding of her daughter, Kira next month, Colleen was determined to seek help from a speech pathologist. In her visits, her therapist urged Colleen to have an EMG. The results proved the symptoms she has been experiencing for the past two years were ALS.
There is no known cure for ALS, the life expectancy is 3-5 years. We believe Colleen has been battling ALS for the past two years, leaving a very short period of time left in her life.
Help us make this Alaskan experience a reality for Colleen and her husband, Dan! In just 4 years, they will be celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary and they'd planned on taking their dream trip to Alaska for this huge milestone. Let’s help them make their dream anniversary trip a little early before Colleen’s health prohibits her from traveling.
Not only is Colleen a devoted wife of almost 40 years, she is also a dedicated mother (of 4 children) and a loving Grandmother. At work, Colleen’s willingness to help extends beyond her job description. Colleen is dependable, caring, kind, but most of all, she is always reaching out to help others even in her most challenging days of failing health. She brings a smile to work every day and is such an inspiration to everyone as she keeps battling her illness with grace.
With your donations, prayers, and helping us spread this message, we are hopeful Colleen and Dan will be traveling to Alaska immediately following her daughter’s wedding at the end of September.
