Help Coen race the Downhill World Cup '22 Series

Please help Coen realize his dreams to ride on the world stage. He's done the work to reach this level, the toughest part will be travelling there. Following an incredible season in 2021, the experience gained, and lessons learned, have fueled him to begin his journey to the top steps this coming summer. Having tons of ups and downs, it was a roller coaster of a season. Coen is using this to help him pursue his goals for the 2022 season. 

Going from not qualifying in Austria at the first world cup, to achieving a top ten finish at Crankworx Innsbruck… to racing in the Finals in Les Gets, France. This first overseas leg last year in June had set up quite the summer. 

Coen returned home and won a podium position at a Canada Cup in Panorama, as well as a 7th position at Canadian Nationals - where a slip up, off the dusty dry course, cost him quite a lot of time.

In August he had attended one of his favorite races - in Big White, BC - and was  crowned “BC DH Junior Provincial Champion”. Following hos success at home, he was invited to race in Val Di Sole, Italy for the UCI DH World Championships with Team Canada, and the following week in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

Feeling fired up and ready, Coen had achieved his personal best - overseas result - at a top 15 in the qualifications at World Championships. With his foot on the gas, he rolled in hot to a technically challenging section and was catapulted off his bike for a massive crash in his final race run. That accident took him out of the race, put him in the hospital and out of contention for any good results for the rest of the trip. Luckily, he walked away with minor injuries, no head injuries, but very shaken up. 

At Coast Gravity Park, Coen closed out the summer with another BC cup win. Some incredible times at that final provincial race was an excellent way to end the season. 

Downhill Mountain Biking is one of the most exciting and dangerous gravity disciplines in sport. Reaching the World Cup level racing is extraordinarily difficult and entering on pace as one of the top prospects is equally as challenging. Coen Skrypnek has achieved that much at the age of just 16. He turned 17 in Leogang this passed year. And will turn 18 in Leogang in 2022, if he can make it to Austria in June! 

Participating in a high number of 2022 races (6 UCI World Cup Downhill and Crankworx Innsbruck) overseas as a Canadian minor requires significant travel costs over the 6 month schedule. Funds will go to cover extensive travel expenses.

Back in his first year in the U17 age category, Coen Skrypnek, finished the 2019 season as the second overall racer in the DH BC Cup series, as well as a top three finisher overall in races held outside of the series in his first year of that age category through the year. He was a consistent podium finisher for the past few years and did not race in 2020. Standing at six feet tall, 175 lbs, with markedly increased strength and endurance, he has demonstrated he can ride on the world stage. With an extensive amount of training, plenty of lifetime race experience and an outgoing friendly demeanor, he is prepared to make his mark. 

In 2019, Coen's racing stats placed him on the podium as a 15 year old in the U17 category in Whistler Crankworx, in the A-Line Air DH, 4th in the Crankworx Canadian Open Downhill, 3rd place at the Canadian National DH race in Panorama, BC, 2nd place at the Canada Cup in Silverstar and Golden, BC, and 2nd overall in the 2019 BC Cup Race Series. Additionally, in his first, and only, year racing cross-country, Coen finished first at 6 of 7 races, and first overall in the BC High School Series in the spring of 2019. 

Lastly, Coen is an exceptional student and a model school citizen. He achieved a 95% average overall as he graduated from Howe Sound Secondary high school in Squamish. He is a PMBIA level 1 bike coach and a mentor to his classmates and on the bike trails.

Travelling overseas frequently is a major financial hurdle. Funds are needed for travel expenses. Because he is still a minor, Coen must travel with a chaperone (parent), and therefore air and ground travel, accommodations and food are the primary expenses that are required to participate. This total is exorbitant and necessary to compete as one of the world's best.

Securing travel and accommodation funding is humbly requested on an ongoing basis until the season ends and a new one begins, please, to allow for continued travel to be properly arranged.
