Thanks for taking the time to click through and learn how you can help out.

I’d like you to meet my friend Jason Estronza .

If your kids have played football in Brighton Michigan anytime in the last 8 years, you’ve probably crossed paths.   Jason has coached at the youth level for the last 6 or 7 years.   Jason has been a  fixture on the sidelines at Brighton High School Varsity Football games for the last few years, making sure dry and warm footballs get in regularly and helping out when player equipment needs fixing.  All this time volunteering for the youth of our community, and Jason doesn’t have a player in the program.  His love for the game, and more importantly, what the game means to the development of the youth of our community is what drives his selfless participation.   Over the years, Jason has given innumerable hours to our youth, and asked nothing in return but the honor of watching these young boys develop into young men.

Now, it’s time for us as a community to give back to Jason.

In late October Jason went for a normal dental cleaning and the hygienist noticed a growth in his mouth and recommended it get looked at.  After an appointment with an Otolaryngologist, it was quickly diagnosed as Stage 1 of an aggressive form of oral cancer.

As is Jason's way, he decided to tackle this head-on.

Surgery was in late November, a week before Thanksgiving.

They took over 60 lymph nodes, removed the tumor and rebuilt his palate with grafts from his arm.    Jason was on a feeding tube for two weeks while he healed and still is limited to soft foods.   He has been off of work now for almost a month and will be off work until at least the end of February.

Jason has a long road ahead of him, but a good prognosis. His next step is aggressive radiation to make sure there is no lingering cancer. Starting just before Christmas, Jason will be getting Radiation 5 times a week for 6 weeks.

Jason is strong, and his friends and he are sure he will beat this.

But, sometimes when you’re in a fight, it’s a challenge to pause and ask for help, and this is where you can assist.

Jason works for Michigan State and has short-term disability and good insurance, but many of us know when medical bills start piling up, neither of those will bridge the gap.    As of today, Jason and his family have over $50,000 in medical bills.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Feel that?   It’s the Christmas Spirit in you wanting to help a local guy.

Embrace it and make a donation to help our the Estranza family in their time of need.

Your donations will go to help out with Jason’s medical bills, and if we are blessed enough to collect more than is owed for his treatment, it will be used to buy gas cards for his daily doctor visits, and other sundries he may need to help him focus worry-free on his recovery.

Thanks for your consideration, and Merry Christmas!
