Help Coach Bud Fight Cancer

My name is Charles Bowman, my friends call me Bud, my players call me Coach Bud. I’ve been coaching youth sports for 20 years, the last 10 re-establishing Bear Creek Baseball in Dundalk, MD.

Last July I was diagnosed with HPV+ Oral Cancer in my tonsils and salivary glands. I underwent both Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy from August to November. Follow up CT, PET and MRI scans in January and February revealed I still have cancer, in my lymph nodes and at the base of my skull. This location is affecting my 5th & 6th nerves which is giving Bells Palsy like symptoms that have paralyzed the left side of my face affecting my speech. I also have blurred vision when reading and double vision. For which I must wear an eye patch.

These two afflictions make impossible for me to return to work. Since I have run out of unemployment insurance and am months away from knowing if I will be approved for Disability, I am in dire straits. I need to keep making COBRA Insurance payments in order to continue to receive treatment. I also need to begin chipping away at my unpaid medical bills which exceed $30,000 at this point.
