Help Coach Andy Barnard!

Andy Barnard is a well-respected and loved School Security Guard at Cherry Creek High School. In addition to his official role at CCHS, Andy also coaches both the Girls' and Boys' Freshman Soccer Teams. He truly is a constant figure in the CCHS community. Andy also coaches a Girls' 2008 Elevation Team, of which he is remarkably proud.

 

In late October, Andy was practicing with his 2008 team. Being the playful and amazing coach that he is, he played goalie. As he went to make a save, his knee popped out and he just completely collapsed. Andy tore both his ACL and Meniscus. Knowing that the surgery would be expensive, he opted to wait. However, he was told that if he did not have surgery right away, he would lose his Meniscus completely.

 

Here's the kicker: Because Coach Andy has not been with the district for a year, he is not eligible for sick leave-- at all. Because he's a classified employee and he accrues time instead of getting a bank of sick days, he is simply left with 13 hours of paid leave. Additionally, he does not qualify for the kind of benefits that would truly help in the situation, which leaves him paying out of pocket for much of his medical expenses, in addition to receiving no income while he recovers.

 

Yesterday, Andy was rushed to the hospital after suffering a blood clot. His roommate heard him fall as he collapsed. Thus, more medical bills.
