Hi Friends - here we are again. Clyde has been doing amazing since his left hind leg amputation in September of last year, but we’ve recently found out that his soft tissue sarcoma has come back. I am absolutely gutted, to say the least.
After speaking with Clyde’s primary oncologist and then getting a second opinion from a separate Veterinarian, we’ve determined that the most urgent issue is the current tumor growing on Clyde’s left hip. If we do not remove this tumor, it will most certainly continue to grow and within a few months, completely close off his rectum. If this happens, I would be forced to make the unimaginably difficult decision to let Clyde peacefully go.
However, if we remove this tumor and begin a course of oral chemo in addition to the Torigen cancer vaccine, Clyde’s chances at more time look a lot more favorable. At this point we aren’t looking at a cure, but simply for more time, as hard as that is to admit.
After the last year and a half with Clyde, and my own medical expenses, I am financially tapped out. The current surgery is estimated to be around $3,500 and then another $1,000 for the cancer vaccine which would be administered to him after surgery over the course of a few weeks. There is a cocktail of oral chemo drugs (cost is yet to be determined, waiting on an estimate) which I may or may not choose to pursue, depending on possible side effects that Clyde might experience. I do not want to lose sight of quality of life while we try our best at also extending whatever time we may have left.
I’m humbly asking for your support as I try to make this next course of treatment work for Clyde. Please know I have exhausted all options - including working multiple side jobs and selling off what stock I do have from work. Any help is appreciated and I will never forget the immense kindness that we have already been the recipient of thus far❤️
