We're not just building a school FOR a community...We're building a school WITH a community.
We are part of a buildOn team that is currently fundraising to build a school in one of the world's economically poorest countries, Senegal. And this fall, our team will be traveling to a rural village in Senegal to break ground on this school.
Why buildOn?
buildOn is a global nonprofit that has partnered with villages for nearly 30 years, building 1,200+ primary schools in the world's poorest countries, including more than 100 in Senegal. Read more about buildOn on their Wikipedia page here .
Why Senegal?
Senegal has consistently ranked near the bottom of the United Nations' Human Development Index, with a low literacy rate of about 39% and low enrollment rates in primary and secondary schools. About 54% of people live below the poverty line and almost half of the population is unemployed.

We have always been passionate about serving others, because we believe that is one of the greatest and truest sources of happiness.
All our lives, we have been blessed to have families who supported us in our education, as well as friends who inspired and motivated us. The education, support, inspiration, and motivation allowed us to create and maintain open mindsets and high expectations for ourselves to achieve great things in life.
We want to create and instill the same with buildOn in the community that we are serving - allowing children and adults to have easy access to education, building a network of communal support, and sowing the seeds of inspiration and motivation for a better and brighter expectation of the future.

1) Is my donation tax deductible?
Your donation to our GoFundMe campaign is not tax deductible. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, please visit our buildOn fundraising page here.
2) Why are we using GoFundMe?
As we are only able to fundraise for the school and in-country costs - and not our airfare - on buildOn's fundraising portal, we want to create a one-stop shop for the all the components we are fundraising for. GoFundMe also allows us the flexibility to reach out to families and friends that work for companies that match 100% of charitable donations, in case we fall short of our fundraising goal.
3) Where does my money go?
Here is a breakdown of our fundraising goal:
$7,770 = $3,775/person * 2 of us + $220 processing fee ( 2.9% + $0.30 per donation)
Per person $3,775 includes:
1. School costs $1,875
2. In-country costs $900
3. Airfare (approx.) $1,000
