<div><strong>What happened:</strong>

<div>On March 1st, while taking a walk on the beach with her husband and dog, our mother was hit by a sneaker wave. For those unfamiliar with the term, a "sneaker wave” is a disproportionately large, unexpected coastal wave that can surge further up the beach than anticipated, sometimes with debris and it poses a serious safety risk. Our mom was hit by a sneaker wave and a log that was inside the wave and ended up shattering her knee and breaking her ankle in two places.

<div>Thankfully her husband was able to get her out of the water with the help of a stranger who had also been on the beach. She was able to get to a hospital and undergo the much needed surgery. We are immensely grateful to all the medical staff that have been helping her, and we are grateful to have her recovering at home now. It will not be a short recovery and, unfortunately, due to having just relocated to a new state and in the search for new jobs, our mom does not have health insurance.

<div>With mounting medical bills, ongoing appointments, rehabilitation, and the cost of needing around the clock care, the financial burden is only adding up. With no insurance, the dread of the incoming medical bills is an additional stress that we do not want for our mom while she focuses on healing.
