HELP CINDY BEAT CANCER

Shortly after retiring, Cindy Toth Smarsh was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects smooth tissue.  A malignant tumor was initially found in her uterus after a hysterectomy in early 2016.  The cancer has metastasized and has spread to her lungs and her peritoneum, the lining of the abdomen.  Several forms of chemotherapy including clinical trials at Abington Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center have been attempted with little to no success in slowing the growth. 
 
The cost of these treatments is staggering.  Fortunately, Cindy has medical insurance but the annual out-of-pocket deductible is significant.   Her insurance premiums increased significantly last year and now exceed her retirement benefit.   Cindy has part time jobs to try and make ends meet but now her health and treatment regimen is physically restricting her ability to work.

$25,000 would help cover the past two years of medical expenses and provide funding for the upcoming year.   This fund would be strictly used for expenses related to Cindy’s healthcare.  

As many know, Cindy has a strong personality and work ethic.   She’s always willing to pitch in and help others, never expecting anything back but a smile.    Asking for help herself is not part of her DNA, so it’s up to her family and friends to step up for her.

Knowing that her physicians are being compensated will give Cindy peace of mind and greatly reduce her stress.  She is also considering some alternative forms of treatment that may not be covered by insurance.   This would improve her quality of life and her chances of success.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated by Cindy and her family including visits, groceries, yard work, car work, errands, and chemo trips.
