Help Cindy McEwen Get Back On Her Feet

Update December 12, 2022: More complications have set Cindy back even further. On December 5th Cindy had knee surgery (metal plate and pins)-- she's laid up in a full-leg brace for a month, then 3 months of rehab. That means no income for another 4 months and more medical bills. She's in good spirits and upbeat but she needs your help more than ever.

September 1, 2022: Please help our friend Cindy McEwen get back on her feet after fracturing her pelvis. Cindy is a creative, funny, and generous person. Always a smile. She's an active member of her creative community. A protest pal, creative partner, good friend, and is always there to lend a hand or boost your confidence. Cindy is a creative individual at heart—a self-employed artist, a handmade glass bead maker, and jewelry maker with a part-time office job. She strives to be self-sufficient—and is unlikely to ask for financial help on her own—that’s why we decided to organize this GoFundMe campaign to help pay Cindy’s medical expenses.

Earlier this year, Cindy took a 12-foot fall and fractured her pelvis in two places. She spent fifteen days in the hospital, 2-weeks of at-home physical therapy, and 14 weeks of outpatient physical therapy. She also sustained permanent vision damage and other long-term medical issues due to the fall.

Like most self-employed and part-time workers, she has some individual healthcare insurance but with the high deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses, and uncovered costs, the accident-related bills keep piling up. Cindy had almost no income during four months of hospitalization, rehab and recovery, and there are no unemployment benefits for the self-employed individual when they can’t work—no safety net.

On top of all this, Cindy is going through a divorce. Seriously. After 34 years of marriage—shattering her entire life, not just her hip. She lost her long-time home because of the divorce, adding apartment rent, deposits and moving expenses on top of the mounting medical bills.

Please contribute whatever you can. Cindy needs the funds to cover two years of high insurance deductibles, out-of-pocket and disallowed expenses, and ongoing care for long-term medical issues due to the accident.
