Help Christina save her leg!

Donation protected
Christina is a young mother with 3 children. She is a sweet, loving mother and full of life. She started having problems with her right knee in 2013; it was recommended she have a partial knee replacement but it failed. In 2015 a second full replacement was done and in a year, it also failed. Her orthopedic surgeon told her she’d have to learn to live with it. November 30,2016, Christina found a highly qualified orthopedic surgeon who recommended revision surgery. Things went well for a time and her new knee worked very well. However, the bacterial infection that had caused the second knee failure came back with a vengeance. Christina’s knee was reopened many times until the new knee had to be removed. In March of 2017, a rod was implanted to keep her leg straight to aid healing. Christina took IVs through a picc line to fight the infection, recommended by a disease infection doctor. After a time the bacteria was gone. But, the rod began to erode the bone and it also had to be removed in June. Now, the plan changed from replacing the knee to trying to save her leg. Total surgeries since November 2016 is thirteen. This time, Christina has contracted MRSA; she was sent to a long-term care facility. After one week Medicaid decided she could no longer stay there because she had the wrong kind of insurance and was told her she owed the facility over $4,000. She is home recovering and trying to heal, living with her parents and her three children. She has a picc line for infusions done twice daily and had a wound vac, which also failed and had to be removed. Christina has not been able to work since 2011 and has been denied disability. She is trying to get SSI, but that has not happened yet. Needless to say, dealing with the constant surgeries and disappointments over the past 8 months have been devastating to herself and to her family, physically, financially, and emotionally; but they are keeping the faith that the Lord will heal her so that she can go to Wake Forest Medical Center to have another knee replacement and plastic surgery that is necessary for the wound closure. At this point the wound is over 1” wide and about 10” long. Their prayer is that Christina will be able to keep her leg and be enable her to return to a normal life and care for her family.
