My name is Chris Garren. In 2022, my life changed in a way I never expected—my kids were moved 750 miles away from me, from Abilene, Texas, to Omaha, Nebraska. I had hoped that maybe they would move back closer, or that I could find a way to join them, but that hasn’t happened. Since then, I’ve been living with a constant ache of missing them, struggling to be a part of their lives from so far away.
Those months and years apart have taken a toll on me—emotionally, physically, and financially. My health suffered, making it hard to keep steady work, and I’ve had to move several times, relying on the kindness of friends to have a place to stay. Keeping a reliable vehicle has also been a challenge, and making the 11+ hour trip safely has been impossible without help.
For a long time, I hesitated, knowing that if I made this move, I would be leaving the rest of my family behind. But life has changed dramatically—my dad recently passed away, and I’ve realized that staying here isn’t an option anymore. My kids need me, and I need to be with them.
Moving to Omaha isn’t something I can do alone. Between ensuring my vehicle is ready for the long drive, paying moving costs, securing deposits and rent for a new place, and taking time off work to relocate, I estimate that I’ll need at least $3,500.
This isn’t just about money—it’s about being present in my children’s lives, sharing everyday moments, and building memories that we’ve missed for too long. Every donation brings me one step closer to being the parent they deserve.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me take this step. Your support is more than financial—it’s hope, it’s love, and it’s a chance for my kids and me to be together again.
