Help Chris Murphy in his fight against ALS

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Chad and my big brother Chris needs our help. He was recently diagnosed with ALS at the young age of 39.

ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease) is a rapidly progressive, fatal disease that affects the nerve cells (neurons) in the brain and spinal cord. Over time someone living with ALS will lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and eventually breathe. There is no cure and very few treatment options. Approximately 80% of people diagnosed with ALS die within 5 years. During our last visit with the Neurologist, we were told this could be his last summer with the use of his hands.  Chris has been able to keep a positive outlook throughout the process, but sadly the ALS is aggressively moving through his body and he has been given 1-3years.  For a family as close as ours, this is a devastating fact to hear, especially for his wife Cheryl and step-daughter Starr who cannot imagine a day without Chris in their lives.

My brother is an avid hiker, backpacker, and has probably camped outside more than he has slept in his own bed! He enjoys the breathtaking moments that nature gives us that most people look past, whether it's as simple as a sunrise or sunset, a chipmunk eating or a bird flying by. He'll stop and take in the moment. That is why this is such a hard disease to cope with because he is a proud, stand-up guy who is going to lose the ability to do the things he values the most.

Chris has been unable to work since last fall resulting in Cheryl working many hours of overtime to cover his loss of income. I'm writing to you with the hope that together we can make his last year(s) with his family as comfortable as possible, something I feel we all deserve. The sad truth is that financially our family is not able to do it on our own. The money raised through this gofundme account will be used for Chris's medical expenses, nutritional needs, travelling to his neurologist appointments in London, his physical & occupational therapy, and any home renovations to assist with his quality of life.

Chris is such a caring husband, son, brother, uncle and father, someone who truly loves his family and would do anything for them. We want this to be our way of doing everything we can for him.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to read my brothers story. If there is any way you can help, it would mean the world to all of us.
