Like many of you, I was moved by my sister-in-law Kim Gay’s Facebook post last week. However, since her post, circumstances surrounding her husband Chris’s health and treatment continue to change. Currently, there is no availability in the new cancer trial, and Chris must start chemotherapy immediately. He will first receive radiation to stop the growth of large and rapidly growing tumors, then he will begin a 24-hour infusion of chemo (Trabectedin). He has over 15 tumors in his liver, lungs, neck, arms, and abdomen. Chris was diagnosed in 2015 with leiomyosarcoma, and he has been actively fighting nonstop since then. As you can imagine, there are many bills that accompany this eleven-year battle. Please help Chris focus on continuing his cancer battle, not the financial burden that comes with treatment. 
 
 
 
 Chris continues to work, gives baseball lessons at night, and never complains. His nurses tell him they are surprised, as most patients do not work while undergoing similar treatments. The trials require a lot of his time—some days last ten hours with blood drawings every two hours to monitor the medicine being administered. Additionally, many of Chris’s tumors cause him severe pain and make it difficult to sleep. Nevertheless, Chris meets every obstacle head on, with quiet strength and unwavering resolve. When doctors say a particular treatment is no longer working, his response is, “When can I start the next treatment?” He is a fighter and hopefully will contribute to breakthrough treatments for cancer. 
 
 
 
 Chris is fighting an incurable cancer. Doctors originally told Chris that he had a 50 percent chance to live five years and an eight percent chance to live ten. Well, unsurprisingly to those who know him, Chris is in year eleven and determined to live much longer. As you can imagine, the eleven-year cancer battle has taken a major toll in many ways. While Chris and Kim are not the type to ask for help, I felt the need to try and help in a small way. As a result, I am setting up this GoFundMe to help Chris focus on what is most important: survival. Any donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference in Chris’s battle. If you cannot help with a donation, they would find a prayer, a positive text, or even a hug to be a blessing.
