Please help Chelsea and her girls rebuild

Donation protected

My name is Leslie Ebers. I live in Rye, New York. One of my children's best friends lost their home this week in the storm. I am creating this GoFundMe to help Chelsea Chapman and her three girls after they lost so much of their home in the storm this week. In the Northeast, we knew that we would be getting rain, and predicted some flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Ida passing by. We could not have predicted just how incredibly devastating that rain would be.

In the final moments, they tried to save items by moving them up to the second floor. One of her twins (a soon to be senior in high school) was trapped when the basement windows collapsed, sealing the door to escape shut. I simply cannot imagine knowing that my child was in that situation. They were thankfully able to manage to get her out. The mental scars from those moments will haunt them forever. The water did not stop at the basement. It went halfway to the second floor. The emergency workers had to rescue them from a second floor window in the middle of the night.

As the days have passed, we have been so fortunate to have many in the community stopping by to help. Now, we are in the deconstruction phase. Drywall and flooring being ripped up. In coming days, the repairs will start. Although they did have flood insurance, it will only cover a tiny portion of what they lost. It is easy to step in to help clean in the moment, but these next several months will be trying for them as they have to live elsewhere, and schools are going back into session next week. Chelsea's daughters are in high school. She has twins, Felicity and Lilibet, that will be entering senior year, and Ophelia, beginning as a freshman this year. They are truly the kindest, most thoughtful girls, and have been taking this enormous loss in stride with the best possible attitude. Chelsea's oldest daughter, Tailor, came immediately from DC to help organize the efforts to save what could be saved. Sadly, not a lot can be.

Furniture is gone, photos and memories are gone, but at the end of it all, they remain incredibly thankful that they are alive and well. Thankfully, Chelsea had her girls move their vehicles to much higher ground, but two of their three vehicles are now having issues unrelated to the storm. The old adage when it rains, it pours, has never been truer.

Any monetary help that can be provided would be most appreciated. Please help Chelsea and her girls come out the other side of this disaster feeling surrounded by the love and care of the community at large.
