<div>The Mehlich family is facing an unimaginable battle with their daughter, Charlotte. On New Year’s Eve, they took Charlotte to the hospital, thinking she was suffering from a bad migraine. Only to be told she had a large, cancerous brain tumor that required immediate surgery. This past Friday, Charlotte underwent a 10+ hour brain surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. They were able to remove about 70% of it, but Charlotte will need a second surgery to remove the remaining portion. The next surgery is complex, as it involves approaching the tumor from the side of her head where critical cranial nerves and blood vessels are located. By the grace of God, the only surgeon in the country qualified to perform this delicate procedure is the head of neurosurgery at Arnold Palmer Hospital. They are now waiting for the pathology report to determine when the second surgery will take place, and to finalize plans for chemotherapy and/or radiation.

<div>Anyone who knows the Mehlich family knows what incredible people they are. Hailey, an exceptional nurse at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital—the same hospital now saving her daughter’s life—has devoted her career to caring for other children, never imagining she would find herself on the other side of this. Mikey has deep roots in Central Florida, graduating from Bishop Moore High School. Both Hailey and Mikey are currently unable to work as they remain by Charlotte’s side. They also have their youngest child, Miles, at home, making this already challenging time even harder.

<div>Charlotte is a vibrant five-year-old and a kindergarten student at Wilson Elementary. She is brilliant and one of the most athletic children you’ll ever meet, excelling at soccer, track, and basketball. Just days before her diagnosis, she learned to ride her bike without training wheels, just showing Charlotte’s true strength.
