Charlie, our cat, went missing for about a week. We finally found him in the attic in the garage after hearing him making noises. Once we got to him, we realized how bad the situation was. He had a small "bear trap" clamped onto his lower jaw. We don't know exactly how long he was up there, but it had been a while. He was covered in feces, pee, drool, and blood. Dad had to cut a hole in the ceiling of the garage just get him out.

We removed the trap and got him cleaned up. He was taken to an emergency vet where they put him on a few different medications to help with the infection that had started in his tongue, mouth, and lip. He was doing okay for a few days, but last night (January 26th) we noticed that the skin on his lower jaw was detaching from his jaw and the bone was exposed.

He was taken to a vet this morning and they said that, unfortunately, the skin is dead. Since there is still an infection in there, they are waiting a few days, until Thursday, to get him back in for reconstructive surgery. He needs a few more days for the infection to clear up and the injured area to heal more so that the vet can determine his parameters better for removing the dead tissue, and then reconstructing his lower lip.

The estimate for the reconstruction is around $877. We are hoping that we can get some help raising the funds to cover this. Poor Charlie has been through so much the last couple weeks, and we just want him to heal up and feel better.
