Help Cat's Family in Puerto Rico
Hello everyone! Since so many of you reached out in the last couple of weeks I wanted to create a space for donation. As most of you know my entire family has been devastated by Hurricane Maria. 15 days after the storm, I have yet to see news about Juana Diaz or hear directly from my Grandmother and uncles.
Yesterday we received a call from a cousin letting us know that my Grandmother was ill after running out of medication for her kidneys. My mom has taken it upon herself to fly out on Wednesday to get her and one of her brothers (who both need medical attention) and bring them to our Bay Shore home indefinitely until power and water are restored.
We will be purchasing 3 tickets for them to return. Jetblue is allowing my mom to bring one luggage plus two additional boxes (50lbs each) with supplies. As much as we would love to have a fundraising event, because of the emergency and short notice we've created this page with a goal of $1000.00. ANYTHING HELPS! If you are uncomfortable donating money we have received a list of supplies that are needed. Inbox, DM, or text me as I will be collecting and packing goods by Monday October 9th. THIS WILL BE GOING DIRECTLY TO MY FAMILY AS ALL OF THEM ARE IN NEED.
Money donated will go towards airfare, prescription medications, food, gas and any supplies we can send. Any donations left will be dispersed among other members of the family as they are currently sharing resources. Depending on how much we raise, the rest will go to repair the roofs of cousins with severe damage to their homes.
With only 2 stores open in town they are frequently running out of food. Money is scarse, banks are low in funds and gas is needed to reach an area with cell service. Authorites have estimated months without power and water in mountain areas where our family resides.
Supplies needed include: LIGHTWEIGHT LED lights, flashlights, batteries of all kinds, water filtration tablets or LifeStraws, evaporated milk, crackers (no fresh bread), packaged lighters, battery powered fans, freeze dried foods such as those used for camping, oatmeal, cans of tuna, soup etc....
Please make all donations by Monday October 9th as I will be personally buying, packaging and sending supplies before my mom's flight!
Through all of our sadness and frustration we appreciate all of you that took the time to help us get through this. We can never thank you enough for being kind and understanding during this difficult time! My sincere thanks!
