The healing process for her Achilles tendon has been slow, and on top of upcoming surgery she needs to undergo chemotherapy in the coming months. This is keeping her out of work for longer than she would like. She needs help paying for rent to avoid facing the risk of eviction again. She is also worried about buying expensive medications that her insurance doesn't cover.

<div>ORIGINAL POST: Meet Catherina. She is a kind, intelligent lawyer and small business owner with a postgraduate degree in criminal justice. She had to leave Venezuela but was welcomed by Costa Rica due to her impressive academic and professional resume. Two years ago, due to turbulent circumstances in her home countries, she was invited to the United States. She now lives in Rochester, NY with her two cats, Elmo and Mito.

<div>Over a year ago, Catherina injured her ankle helping a smaller dog being attacked by a larger dog while visiting her family in Costa Rica. Due to negligence of care early on, the injury has been long lasting and severe. She had surgery in the United States to reconstruct her Achilles tendon. She now uses a cane to walk and is unable to spend time on her feet.

<div>Catha is trained as a state certified personal homecare provider for sick adults. Due to her injury, she is unable to drive and had to sell her car for money. Her doctor has placed her on disability until September 30th, and she is legally not allowed to return to her job until then.

<div>She has been working with charity agencies for financial support but expected payments have not come through. In addition to physical therapy and frequent medical appointments, she has been working with a lawyer to stay in her apartment as she finds a way to pay the rent. She is several months behind, and needs to pay off the Warrant of Eviction.

<div>Before her injury, she loved to keep busy. She loved driving around Rochester and visiting Ontario Beach. A former director of a men’s prison, she aspires to work at a Rochester prison. However, because she is still learning English she has struggled to find work. She is currently confined to her apartment and faces tremendous financial stresses.
